Growth and presentation

Growth and Presentation Scan

Performed between 24 and 40 weeks
£75

This scan is designed to provide reassurance about your baby’s size and position in the womb

The main purpose of the scan is to:

  • Reassure fetal growth
  • Determine fetal position
  • Check fetal wellbeing
  • Assess the condition of the placenta
  • Evaluate amniotic fluid volume

If you have any pregnancy complications or concerns about your baby’s size, we will conduct fetal biometry to measure various fetal parameters and calculate the estimated fetal weight for the current gestational age.

Assessing placental blood flow is crucial for screening potential issues such as impaired placentation, which can lead to complications like pre-eclampsia, intrauterine growth restriction, and perinatal death. It is recommended that you share your growth scan results with your regular healthcare professional.

The suitable gestational age for this scan is between 24 to 40 weeks.

What will I get?

Your 10-minute appointment includes:

  • Confirmation of fetal viability and detection of the baby’s heartbeat.
  • Comprehensive baby wellbeing report including fetal biometry.
  • Two 2D thermal photo prints for your keepsake.
  • Optional sexing of the baby.
  • 4D preview of your baby (subject to conditions, not guaranteed).
  • Digital images and mini video clips sent to your email for your records.
IMPORTANT

If your gestation is 32 weeks or more, obtaining clear images of your baby may be challenging and cannot be guaranteed. For clear photos, we recommend considering our 3D/4D scan options.

Any concerns identified during the scan will be documented for you to discuss with your healthcare provider.

PREPARATION

We ask you to have a full bladder for the scan to ensure the best possible visualization and information with a transabdominal approach. Drinking at least 0.5 litres of water before your appointment is advised, and please try to avoid emptying your bladder just before the scan.
